About Exodus
Exodus brings Origin Systems’ classic computer role-playing adventure to the NES in a streamlined 1989 adaptation published by FCI. Set in the fantasy world of Sosaria, it places you in command of a party of adventurers tasked with stopping the powerful menace known as Exodus. Rather than following a single hero, the game focuses on building and managing a group, giving each character a distinct role through class selection, equipment, and spell use.
Exploration takes place across an expansive overworld filled with towns, castles, shrines, and dangerous wilderness. Towns provide places to gather information, purchase supplies, and prepare for the journey, while dungeons lead to more hazardous encounters and valuable discoveries. Travel is not entirely safe, so stocking up and choosing when to press onward are important parts of the adventure.
Combat shifts to a turn-based battlefield, where party members and enemies occupy separate spaces. Positioning, weapon range, magic, and careful use of each character’s abilities all matter, especially as battles become more demanding. The NES version presents these systems through a more accessible console interface while retaining the measured pace and party-based strategy associated with the Ultima series.
Exodus is a substantial RPG for the NES, suited to players who enjoy mapping unfamiliar territory, improving a custom party, and uncovering the path through a large fantasy world. Its slower rhythm rewards patience rather than reflexes, and its blend of open-ended exploration, character management, and tactical encounters gives the adventure a distinctive old-school character. If you want to revisit this ambitious console RPG, RetroCloud lets you play online on your browser and experience Origin Systems’ interpretation of a foundational fantasy adventure.
