Lee Trevino’s Fighting Golf

Lee Trevino’s Fighting Golf brings a traditional round of golf to the NES with a distinctly arcade-minded approach. Released in 1988 by SNK, it is designed for up to four players, making it a natural choice for relaxed competition on the same console. Rather than focusing on a story, the game puts its attention where it belongs: reading each hole, choosing the right club, and trying to finish with the lowest score.

Before each shot, players can adjust their aim, account for wind, and select from the available clubs. A timing-based power meter determines the strength of the swing, while careful control is needed to avoid slicing or hooking the ball into trouble. Drives, approach shots, chips, and putts all require slightly different decisions, so even a straightforward hole can become a test of judgment. The courses mix open fairways with hazards and greens that punish careless shots, encouraging players to balance aggressive play with sensible positioning.

The presentation is simple and functional, using a top-down view for much of the course and a close-up perspective for putting. That clear format keeps the action easy to follow and gives every player a chance to study the layout before taking a turn. Lee Trevino’s name adds a recognizable golfing identity, but the game remains accessible even if you are not an experienced player.

Its four-player support is the main attraction, turning a measured solo sport into a lively pass-the-controller contest. Whether you are revisiting an old NES collection or looking to play online on your browser, Lee Trevino’s Fighting Golf offers a straightforward slice of 8-bit golf. RetroCloud provides an easy place to revisit SNK’s compact, competitive take on the sport.
