About Lemmings
Lemmings is a puzzle-strategy game built around one simple problem: a steady stream of tiny green-haired creatures is marching toward danger, and you must guide enough of them safely to the exit. On the NES, you control the action with a cursor, selecting individual lemmings and assigning useful skills at the right moment. A climber can scale vertical walls, a floater can survive a long fall, and builders can create stairways across gaps. Other lemmings can dig through earth, tunnel horizontally, or bash through obstacles, while blockers can redirect the crowd and buy you time.
Each stage is a carefully arranged maze of platforms, hazards, drops, and narrow routes. The challenge comes from reading the layout quickly, managing a limited supply of abilities, and anticipating how the lemmings will move once your instructions are given. A solution that looks obvious may fail if a builder starts too late, a digger reaches the wrong level, or the group becomes trapped behind a blocker. The goal is not necessarily to save everyone, but to rescue the required number before the timer runs out.
Developed by DMA Design and published by Sunsoft, this 1992 NES version brings the celebrated mouse-driven puzzle concept to Nintendo’s console as a one-player experience. Its colorful presentation and cheerful marching soundtrack contrast nicely with the surprisingly demanding logic behind each level. Lemmings is easy to understand, yet solving later stages requires patience, precision, and a willingness to experiment.
Whether you are revisiting a puzzle classic or discovering it for the first time, RetroCloud lets you play online on your browser and experience the satisfying rhythm of planning, testing, and finally watching a whole procession reach safety.
