About Trog

Trog is a maze-based action game that brings Midway’s colorful arcade style to the NES in 1991. You control Bloop, a determined caveman navigating island-like stages while rescuing dinosaur eggs and avoiding the hungry Trogs that patrol each area. The objective is straightforward, but reaching every egg and making it safely to the exit becomes increasingly demanding as the layouts grow more crowded and the enemies become harder to evade.

The game is played from a top-down perspective, giving you a clear view of the maze and the dangers closing in from different directions. Bloop can move around obstacles, gather useful items, and use the environment to create opportunities for escape. Rocks are especially important, since they can be pushed to block routes or interfere with pursuing Trogs. Timing matters just as much as movement: rushing into an open passage can leave you surrounded, while careful positioning often creates the safest path through the stage.

Trog’s appeal comes from its simple arcade premise and constant pressure. It is easy to understand within moments, yet completing a stage cleanly requires attention, quick reactions, and a willingness to learn the layout. The bright presentation, comic enemies, and compact objectives give it a playful character, while the threat of being cornered keeps the action lively.

With support for two players, the NES version offers an additional way to enjoy its maze challenges with a friend. Whether you remember it from the arcade or are discovering it through RetroCloud, Trog is a distinctive early-1990s action game that suits short sessions and repeat attempts. You can play online on your browser and see how many eggs you can recover before the Trogs catch up.
