About Alien 3

Alien 3 on the NES is a side-scrolling action game based on the tense science-fiction film. Released in 1993, it places players in the role of Ellen Ripley as she searches the prison colony on Fiorina “Fury” 161, battling aliens and trying to rescue trapped prisoners before time runs out.

The game combines platforming with run-and-gun combat. Ripley moves through the colony’s corridors, ladders, platforms, and industrial passageways while dealing with facehuggers, drones, and other hostile creatures. The prison complex is a dangerous maze, and simply reaching the end of a stage is not always the main objective. Players must explore carefully, locate prisoners, and complete their rescue missions within the allotted time. That countdown gives each area a nervous sense of urgency, especially when an alien blocks a narrow route or Ripley is forced to backtrack through familiar rooms.

Ripley’s weapons provide the main answer to the infestation, with firearms and heavier equipment helping her clear enemies from the screen. Ammunition and health need to be managed sensibly, since rushing into every encounter can leave her poorly prepared for the next section. The NES hardware naturally presents a more compact version of the film’s setting, but the dim corridors, hostile atmosphere, and constant pressure still capture much of Alien 3’s survival-focused mood.

Developed by Probe and published by LJN, this one-player release is a straightforward but demanding adaptation for fans of 8-bit action games and the Alien universe. It rewards persistence, route learning, and cautious exploration more than reckless shooting. RetroCloud offers a convenient way to play online on your browser and revisit this darker NES film adaptation.
