About Contra Force

Contra Force is a run-and-gun action game built for the NES and released by Konami in 1992. As a spin-off of the Contra series, it keeps the familiar formula of moving through dangerous stages while firing constantly, jumping over hazards, and clearing groups of enemies. The game follows a special military team responding to a terrorist threat in Neo City, giving the action a modern urban setting rather than the jungle-focused atmosphere found in some earlier Contra games.

Up to two players can take part at the same time, choosing from four members of the Contra Force team. Each character has a different weapon setup, so selecting the right soldier can change how a stage feels. The action includes both side-scrolling sections and overhead areas, adding some variety to the usual forward march. Players need to watch enemy patterns, avoid sudden attacks, and make careful use of their firepower instead of simply rushing ahead. Like other Contra titles, the game is demanding, and losing a life can quickly turn a promising run into a desperate attempt to reach the next checkpoint.

Contra Force stands out for its team-based approach and its distinctly NES interpretation of the series’ action. The two-player mode is especially appealing, since coordinating movement and covering the screen together makes the tougher encounters more manageable. It may not be as widely remembered as the mainline Contra games, but its character selection, urban missions, and mixed stage viewpoints give it a personality of its own. RetroCloud provides a convenient way to play online on your browser, making this unusual Konami release easy to revisit for NES fans and anyone curious about the less familiar corners of the Contra library.
