About Duck Tales
DuckTales is a classic 1989 NES platformer from Capcom, based on Disney’s animated series and starring Scrooge McDuck on a globe-spanning treasure hunt. Rather than moving through a fixed sequence of stages, players can choose from several destinations on a world map, including the Amazon, Transylvania, the African Mines, the Himalayas, and the Moon. Each location has its own visual style, hazards, enemies, hidden routes, and treasure to discover.
Scrooge’s signature pogo jump is the heart of the game. By bouncing on his cane, he can cross gaps, defeat certain enemies, reach higher platforms, and move quickly through difficult sections. His cane can also be swung to break objects and deal with threats, giving the controls more flexibility than a straightforward jump-and-run platformer. Exploring carefully is worthwhile, since stages contain valuable treasures and secret areas, while familiar characters from the cartoon provide assistance and direction along the way.
The levels are compact but packed with surprises, and their layouts encourage players to revisit areas after learning how different obstacles work. Boss encounters at the end of each destination add a clear goal to every expedition, while the search for wealth gives the adventure a playful sense of purpose. The game’s responsive controls, memorable music, and distinctive pogo-based movement have helped it remain one of the most fondly remembered Disney games on the NES.
Whether you know the cartoon or are discovering Scrooge’s adventure for the first time, DuckTales offers focused platforming with plenty of personality. RetroCloud provides a convenient way to play online on your browser and revisit this Capcom favorite from the NES era.
