About Rampage
Rampage brings the classic arcade monster-smashing formula to the NES in a compact, two-player action game. Released in 1988 by Data East, it lets players take control of George and Lizzie, two oversized creatures intent on tearing through a city one building at a time. The objective is simple but satisfying: climb the sides of high-rises, punch through windows, and reduce each structure to rubble while avoiding the forces sent to stop you.
The action takes place across side-scrolling city streets filled with buildings, vehicles, soldiers, and other hazards. As you climb, enemies can appear from windows, helicopters and tanks attack from outside, and damaged buildings become increasingly unstable. Keeping an eye on both the structure and the surrounding street is essential, especially when playing with a friend. You can work together to clear the screen, or simply enjoy the chaos of two monsters competing for space and targets.
Rampage’s appeal comes from its straightforward controls and destructive playground. There is no complicated inventory or elaborate storyline to interrupt the action; the fun is in deciding where to climb, when to strike, and how long to remain on a building before it collapses. The NES version preserves that instantly readable arcade style while making it easy to pick up for short sessions.
Whether you remember the game from arcades or are discovering it for the first time, Rampage is an entertaining example of late-1980s arcade action adapted for home play. RetroCloud gives you a convenient way to play online on your browser and revisit its chunky graphics, frantic hazards, and wonderfully uncomplicated monster mayhem on the NES.
