About Snow Bros
Snow Bros. is a classic single-screen arcade platformer adapted for the NES in 1991, with Toaplan’s distinctive action design published on the console by Capcom. You play as one of two snowmen, Nick or Tom, battling through a series of compact stages filled with monsters, platforms, and hazards. The goal is simple but satisfying: cover enemies in snow until they become snowballs, then push or kick those snowballs across the screen to defeat other enemies in a chain reaction.
Each stage is a self-contained puzzle-like arena, so success depends on more than simply running and jumping. You need to position yourself carefully, decide when to freeze an enemy, and find the right moment to send a rolling snowball through a group of opponents. Miss an opportunity and enemies can break free, making the screen much harder to control. The NES version preserves the game’s bright visuals, straightforward controls, and quick rhythm while presenting the challenge in a format suited to home play.
Snow Bros. is also designed with cooperation in mind. Two players can take control of Nick and Tom together, combining their snow attacks and helping each other clear crowded stages. Solo play is just as enjoyable, especially for players who like learning enemy patterns and improving their timing. Occasional power-ups add variety by changing movement speed or snow-throwing ability, while the cheerful presentation contrasts nicely with the increasingly demanding action.
Whether you remember it from the arcade or are discovering it on the NES, Snow Bros. remains an approachable yet skillful platform game. Its clever snowball mechanic gives every stage a clear objective and plenty of room for creative play. RetroCloud lets you play online on your browser and revisit this colorful two-player favorite without losing its old-school appeal.
