About Double Dragon 2 The Revenge
Double Dragon II: The Revenge is a side-scrolling beat ’em up that brings Billy and Jimmy Lee back to the streets for another hard-hitting fight. Released for the NES in 1990, this Technos-developed sequel follows the brothers as they take on the Black Warriors after the death of Marian. The story gives the action a clear sense of purpose, but the real appeal is in the satisfying rhythm of moving forward, reading enemy attacks, and choosing the right moment to strike.
The NES version builds on the foundation of the original with more varied combat and a stronger sense of progression across its missions. Billy and Jimmy can punch, kick, jump, grab opponents, and use weapons found during the stages, including bats and other useful objects. A notable control feature lets attacks change depending on the direction being pressed, giving the brothers more options than a simple forward-facing brawler. Enemies arrive from multiple directions, so positioning matters, especially when several attackers crowd the screen.
Double Dragon II supports two-player cooperative play, allowing both brothers to fight through the game together. Cooperation makes the tougher encounters more manageable, though careless attacks can still create plenty of chaos. Along the way, the game mixes urban streets with other action-focused environments and throws in challenging boss battles that test timing more than button mashing.
With its weighty combat, memorable music, and tougher arcade-style design, The Revenge remains one of the more accomplished beat ’em ups on the NES. Whether you are revisiting it for the two-player action or trying to master its missions alone, you can play online on your browser through RetroCloud and experience this 1990 classic in its original NES form.
