About Rc Pro Am
Released for the NES in 1988, RC Pro-Am is a fast, tightly designed racing game from Rare and Nintendo. Rather than presenting the action from behind the car, it uses an angled overhead view that gives each track a clear, miniature racing-circuit feel. You control a radio-controlled car against three computer opponents, steering through sharp turns, narrow lanes, water hazards, barriers, and other obstacles while trying to stay ahead.
The tracks are as much about quick decisions as raw speed. Scattered across the course are useful pickups, including speed-boosting zippers and offensive items such as missiles and bombs. A well-timed missile can remove a rival from your path, while a bomb dropped behind your car punishes anyone following too closely. Hitting the edges of the track or a hazard costs valuable momentum, so learning when to brake, turn, and use a boost is essential.
RC Pro-Am also gives races a sense of progression. As you advance, the courses become more demanding, opponents become harder to shake, and your car can be improved through upgrades collected during play. The simple controls are easy to understand, but mastering the slippery handling and making effective use of weapons takes practice. There is no elaborate story or multiplayer mode to distract from the central challenge: survive each race, finish near the front, and keep improving your performance.
Its bold perspective, colorful graphics, energetic pace, and compact arcade-style races make RC Pro-Am one of the NES’s most recognizable racing games. It remains a satisfying choice for short sessions or determined high-score attempts, and visitors to RetroCloud can play online on your browser for a convenient return to Rare’s classic racer.
