About Bomberman 2
Bomberman 2 brings Hudson Soft’s bomb-laying maze action to the NES with a more developed adventure than the original game. Released in 1991, it follows Bomberman through a series of enclosed stages where careful movement matters as much as quick reflexes. Each area is built around destructible blocks, hidden openings, roaming enemies, and the familiar risk of being caught in your own blast.
The basic strategy is easy to understand but rarely forgiving: place a bomb, move out of its cross-shaped explosion, and use the resulting destruction to open a path. As stages progress, power-ups can improve the range or number of bombs available, making it possible to clear sections more efficiently while also creating new hazards. Explosions can chain together, destroy several blocks at once, and turn a safe-looking route into a dangerous trap. Timing is especially important when enemies crowd narrow passages or when the stage layout leaves limited room to escape.
Alongside the main solo game, Bomberman 2 includes a two-player battle mode that shifts the focus from enemy clearing to outsmarting another player. Its compact arenas encourage feints, fast bomb placement, and bold attempts to cut off an opponent’s route. A round can change instantly, particularly when a player becomes too confident near a chain reaction.
The NES presentation has a bright, clean look, and the straightforward controls make the game easy to pick up while leaving plenty of room for skillful play. Whether you prefer working through puzzle-like stages alone or facing a friend in tense arena matches, Bomberman 2 remains an entertaining example of Hudson Soft’s action-puzzle design. It is available on RetroCloud for anyone wanting to play online on your browser.
