About Burger Time
BurgerTime is a classic arcade-style platform game that turns a restaurant kitchen into a maze of ladders, platforms, and oversized ingredients. On the NES, you control Peter Pepper, a chef trying to assemble giant hamburgers by walking across the layers of buns, meat, lettuce, and other fillings. Each time you cross an ingredient, it drops to the platform below, gradually stacking the burger while creating paths through the stage.
The challenge comes from completing these sandwiches without getting caught by the roaming food-shaped enemies. Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Pickle, and Mr. Egg patrol the platforms and ladders, forcing you to plan your route and make quick escapes. Peter Pepper can temporarily stun enemies with pepper, but this resource is limited, so using it at the right moment is often the difference between finishing a burger and losing a life.
Rather than relying on complicated controls, BurgerTime builds its appeal around timing, positioning, and clever movement. Dropping one ingredient can crush enemies beneath it, while a well-planned descent may let you clear several layers at once. The simple objective becomes increasingly tense as the screen fills with hazards and safe routes become harder to find.
Released for the NES in 1985, this version brings Data East’s memorable food-themed arcade formula home under publisher Namco. Its bright presentation, instantly recognizable premise, and demanding but approachable gameplay make it a natural choice for short sessions or competitive turns with a second player. Whether you remember it from the arcade or are discovering Peter Pepper’s kitchen for the first time, you can play online on your browser through RetroCloud.
