Super C

Super C is Konami’s 1990 NES follow-up to Contra, delivering another demanding run-and-gun shooter built around quick reflexes, careful movement, and relentless enemy fire. Set during a new alien invasion, the game sends one or two players through battlefields filled with soldiers, creatures, mechanical defenses, and imposing bosses. Its military science-fiction setting is presented with the direct, action-focused style that defined the series.

The controls are simple to learn but unforgiving to master. Players run, jump, crouch, and fire in eight directions while trying to keep moving through tightly packed stages. Weapon upgrades, including the familiar spread shot and other more powerful firearms, can make a major difference, but losing a life also means losing the current weapon. That risk gives every power-up real importance and encourages players to stay alert rather than charging forward carelessly.

Super C mixes traditional side-scrolling stages with overhead sections, creating some welcome variety without slowing the pace. Enemy patterns, narrow platforms, sudden hazards, and large boss encounters keep the action tense from beginning to end. The two-player mode is especially appealing: coordinating movement and fire with a friend can make difficult sections more manageable, although the screen quickly becomes chaotic when both players are under pressure.

As a NES release from Konami, Super C showcases the system’s ability to deliver fast arcade-style action in a home setting. It is challenging, compact, and highly replayable, with memorable sound effects and a brisk rhythm that rewards practice. Whether you are revisiting the game or trying it for the first time, RetroCloud lets you play online on your browser and experience one of the NES library’s most respected cooperative shooters.
