About Sunday Funday

Sunday Funday is an unusual late-era NES release from Wisdom Tree, published in 1995 as a Christian-themed reinterpretation of an earlier side-scrolling action game. The main adventure follows a young boy making his way to Sunday school, traveling through hazards and enemies in a distinctly repurposed version of the Menace Beach-style design. Rather than presenting a polished, story-heavy journey, it focuses on straightforward arcade platforming: move from left to right, avoid danger, deal with enemies, and keep progressing through each stage.

The game’s presentation gives familiar NES mechanics a religious makeover. Bright, simple graphics, Sunday school imagery, and faith-based messages replace the more conventional setting found in the source material. Movement can feel stiff by modern standards, and the collision detection and difficulty demand patience, especially for players unfamiliar with early NES action games. That roughness is part of the game’s identity, however, and makes it an interesting example of how Wisdom Tree adapted existing software for its own audience.

Sunday Funday is also notable for including additional mini-games alongside the main platformer. Fish Fall offers a falling-block puzzle experience, while a Bible-themed trivia game provides a slower, question-and-answer diversion. These extras give the cartridge more variety than a single short action game, even though the quality and appeal of the components can vary considerably.

Today, Sunday Funday attracts curiosity as much for its history and unusual presentation as for its gameplay. It represents the final wave of unlicensed NES software and the distinctive approach Wisdom Tree brought to the console. For a
